Health Positive Media

As part of my 9th grade Health class, we have studied media and it's relationship to our health.  First all the kids took a survey to see how much media they were actually consuming and we graphed that information and presented it to the class.  Then we used CPYU's "Minding Your Media Guide" to evaluate music videos.  The students compared the messages they were seeing in the videos to their own personal values and the Basic Life Standards. (perserverance, responsibility, compassion, etc.)  The last part of the media assignment was to produce your own "health positive" advertisement.  It could be no longer than 60 seconds and could deal with any subject that was health related.  The kids used Flipcameras and Windows Movie Maker or Powerpoint to create their ads.  Some of them really turned out well and I am going to showcase them here in my blog.  This first one is on bullying and gives (I think) a very powerful message.  Even though Windows Movie Maker is a pretty simple program, this group gave their ad a very professional look.  Take a peek at it and see for yourself!
