Not too long ago, the surgeon general's recommendation for exercise for adults was 30 minutes three times per week. Recently that number was increased to 30 minutes daily. The amount for young people was increased to 60 minutes per day. So is it time for you to step it up too?
A few years ago, I was doing circuit training three times a week for 30 minutes per day and I felt like I was in good shape. I would round this out with leisurely walks around the neighborhood. Then I stepped it up and started to work out 5 to 6 times per week for 30 to 60 minutes per day. I also increased the intensity of my workouts to include weight training as well as aerobic work.
I started to feel more energetic and strong. I actually feel younger now than I did three or four years ago. Aches and pains I once had have subsided and I have more energy now than I have had in a long time.
Of course, any exercise is better than no exercise at all, but could getting some more exercise make you feel better too? Maybe you should think about listening to the surgeon general. Step it up and see how you feel!
