I found this Ustream live webcam of Eagles on the nest in Decorah, Iowa by following others on Twitter (thanks Shannon!). The first babies hatched on April second. The camera is focused on the nest 24/7 and infrared light allows night vision to anyone viewing the eagles. They can't see infrared light so it doesn't bother them at all.
The Raptor Resource Project maintains the nest cameras. RPR exists to assist in the preservation of falcons, eagles, ospreys, hawks and owls. These types of live cams help people connect to nature and make them aware of the need for preservation.
Links to these live cams are all over social media. It's obvious that people are quite interested in the nesting eagles. This is an excellent opportunity to bring your family together and turn it into a healthy family activity.
Younger kids can watch the eagles and draw pictures and write stories about what is happening. Families can learn together about the nesting habits of the eagles. You can take a family trip to try to spot eagles where you live. There are several places in Central PA (my home) where you can go to see eagles. One of my former co-workers has a camera she bought just to take pictures of bald eagles. Of course it would be kind of hard to find eagles without taking a family hike in their habitat. Just be careful not to disturb the them on the nest. Follow up your hike with a healthy picnic lunch and you have yourself a great family activity in the fresh air and sunshine!
